A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy has been accused of driving his motorcycle drunk and crashing into the back end of another vehicle on the 405 freeway on the evening of July 5. The deputy, age 38, of West Covina was off duty and was driving with his wife on the back of his motorcycle when the accident occurred near the Brookhurst Street exit. Prosecutors have filed felony charges against the deputy for driving under the influence causing injury and driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or more causing injury.
The deputy was treated for hip injuries after the crash and his wife was hospitalized with abrasions to her arms and hand and a knee injury, but occupants of the other vehicle were not injured. His blood-alcohol level was 0.15 two hours after the crash, and if convicted, he faces a sentence ranging from probation to three years in state prison.
